Did You Know?

This ceramic figure usually stands alone, without a silver mounting.

Description

This figure featuring three monkeys was designed by the Danish ceramicist Ingeborg Plockross-Iminger. The figure is displayed with a French silver mount that references Japonisme and Art Nouveau styles that were popular at the end of the 1800s and experienced a resurgence in the 1920s because of increased importation of Japanese goods to the West.
A low, round silver-gilt and porcelain vessel flares at the base and tapers toward a smooth gold rim. The exterior's dark, iridescent surface is adorned with relief carvings of sharp, fan-like leaves and a plump, hanging fruit. The interior glows with reflective gold, revealing embossed botanical patterns on the base. Muted shades of brown, green, and blue swirl across the metallic form, catching the light.
