Did You Know?

This ceramic figure usually stands alone, without a silver mounting.

Description

This figure featuring three monkeys was designed by the Danish ceramist Ingeborg Plockross-Iminger. The figure is displayed with a French silver mount that references Japonisme and Art Nouveau styles that were popular at the end of the 1800s and experienced a resurgence in the 1920s because of increased importation of Japanese goods to the West.
A pale gray porcelain sculpture depicts three monkeys clustered on a flared silver-gilt base. The tallest monkey faces our right with eyes closed, while another rests its head against it, facing our left. A third faces away from us. The base features raised designs of long, thin leaves and fruit. Pointed metal leaves extend upward from the base, partially surrounding the smooth, rounded figures.
