Kiyomi Iwata

A rounded, crumpled sphere of translucent white silk organza featuring flaky patches and dots of gold leaf. The fabric is gathered and stitched into an irregular, lumpy form with deep crevices. Frayed white threads and fibers protrude from various folds and seams. The textile rests centered against a dark, matte background, highlighting the contrast between the reflective gold and the matte organza.

The donor, Vicki S. McDaniel, is the daughter of Mildred Constantine (1913- 2008), scholar, author and collector, who donated 67 small works in fiber to the CMA which form the nucleus of the museum's fiber art collection and serve as magnets for additional gifts. They are offered from the estate.
