Tiny chips of diamonds are embedded into the surface of this scent bottle.

Description

Cartier sold a line of scent bottles in the 1920s composed of older Chinese bottles that had been embellished with tiny jewels in random spots on the surface and mounted in either silver or gold.
A translucent, gray-brown agate scent bottle with a bulbous body rests on a footed silver base. Natural dark inclusions form a fish shape with a tiny diamond eye, while relief carvings depict an elephant and buildings on the sides. The bottle tapers into an engraved silver neck and a domed stopper featuring bird and floral motifs. A flat, blue enamel disk tops the piece, its vibrant color contrasting with the stone's earthy tones.
