An open almanac has dark agate covers encased in ornate gold scrollwork. A hinged gold clasp extends from the left. Gilded-edged pages fanning out show black printed text under the heading JULY, listing dates and astronomical observations. Bright red fabric lines the inner spine and cover edges. The book stands upright, its pages creating a fanned display between the two agate panels, revealing columns of text on an aged paper background.
