A rectangular black tortoiseshell snuff box is inset with an octagonal enamel painting, framed by gold-chased scrollwork and a blue border. The scene depicts Mary and Joseph tending to an infant in a manger. Five men approach from the left, while two figures stand in a stone doorway on the right. Warm colors and classical architecture are set against a pink sky. A thin gold band wraps the midline, separating lid and base.
