Description

Goo created Luna Lumiere while teaching textile design at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Its complex composition features two transparent organza panels placed in front of an opaque cotton layer—each printed with a similar design in slightly shifted registers—in order to achieve an uncanny effect of visual vibration.
A horizontally oriented silk and cotton textile features a dense field of vertical white lines. Large diamond shapes, formed by rows of short diagonal strokes, extend from the sides toward the center. On the right, a large circle is defined by shifting patterns in the overlapping geometric layers. This complex composition creates a vibrating, grid-like appearance where interlocked shapes of light and dark produce a sense of optical depth and movement.
