Description

Charles Cundall was a 20th-century British painter of genre scenes, sporting subjects, and landscapes.
A vertically oriented drypoint print depicts a man with light skin seated in an artist's studio. Looking toward us, his face emerges from a background of dense, cross-hatched lines. He wears a dark jacket and tie, holding a long mahlstick and brush near a tall, white canvas. Behind him, jars, bottles, and sketches rest on shelves against a paneled wall. Fine, velvety hatching creates deep shadows, while white paper highlights his features.
