Did You Know?

Miller's art began to attract attention in Japan shortly before his untimely death.

Description

Scott Miller belonged to a generation of artists inspired by cartoons and graffiti. Untitled, which features a man floating amid intestines and accompanied by animals, suggests vulnerability and mortality, and the concept of one’s place in the universe. The artist’s imagery during this period likely references his identity as a gay man living through the deadliest years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
A square oil painting depicts a nude man with a medium-light skin tone reclining on a hollow, log-like form. He faces our right with wide eyes and a furrowed brow. Multiple arms wrap across his torso. His legs are tucked. A small horse stands on his back. To our left, a twisting pillar rises from a bowl. To our right, a stack of bulbous forms ascends. Gold marks scatter across the cream background.
