Description

Sander attempted to document the entire spectrum of German society between the two world wars through portraits. He was attempting to find characteristics that typified a profession or social class, yet also strove to maintain a sense of each sitter’s individuality. Sander photographed Heinrich Hoerle (German, 1895–1936) in his studio in the act of drawing Hein Domgörgen (1898–1972), the dominant German middleweight boxer in the 1920s.
