  • We were at the museum during the Monet to Matisse exhibit in Jan. 2016. While exploring the museum, I was drawn to a specific painting but I cannot remember the artist. It was similar to an O'Keefe work, but I cannot find who painted it anywhere online. It has three white calla lilies, surrounded by dark gray/black with a blue sky and yellow butterfly. It seems that it was located in a special room. If you can tell me the title and name of artist, I would be extremely grateful! Thank you!

  • I am the book conservator at the Missouri Botanical Garden Library. We own a book illustrated by Hans Weiditz (Herbarum vivae eicones ), and I would like to clarify something about him. I have a recollection reading somewhere recently (I cannot find or remember the source) that Weiditz had studied with Hans Burgkmair and that Burgkmair had been Durer's woodblock cutter (or words to that effect). I have been able to find confirmation for the first part of this statement, but not the second, which now strikes me as either nonsense, or an obscure claim made in the periodical literature. What was the relationship among these 3 artists (Durer, Burgkmair, and Weiditz)? Any help will be appreciated.
