It was similar to an O'Keefe work, but I cannot find who painted it anywhere online. It has three white calla lilies, surrounded by dark gray/black with a blue sky and yellow butterfly. It seems that it was located in a special room. If you can tell me the title and name of artist, I would be extremely grateful! Thank you!

  • I am an aspiring writer who wants to write an ekphrastic poem based on Time (From Chateau de Chaumont Set), 1512-1515 (https://www.clevelandart.org/art/1960.176.3). I am particularly intrigued by the idea of Time being beaten up by Youth, but I wanted to verify that the interpretation is correct. I came across the following on JAMA, which is totally different from the one on your site: http://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/194561. Could you verify your interpretation and possibly direct me to some reading material about the tapestry? Thanks so much!

  • I am the book conservator at the Missouri Botanical Garden Library. We own a book illustrated by Hans Weiditz (Herbarum vivae eicones ), and I would like to clarify something about him. I have a recollection reading somewhere recently (I cannot find or remember the source) that Weiditz had studied with Hans Burgkmair and that Burgkmair had been Durer's woodblock cutter (or words to that effect). I have been able to find confirmation for the first part of this statement, but not the second, which now strikes me as either nonsense, or an obscure claim made in the periodical literature. What was the relationship among these 3 artists (Durer, Burgkmair, and Weiditz)? Any help will be appreciated.
