This Week at the CMA: Parade the Circle Workshops, Jon Pestoni Exhibition, Films, and More

Check out these five must-attend events this week at the CMA!

Through Sun, 7/10, CMA at Transformer Station
Now open, the Los Angeles-based painter’s first solo museum exhibition is at the Transformer Station. Featuring paintings made during the past five years, Pestoni’s bold work is comprised of stunning and alluringly boisterous layered paintings, documenting the artist's constantly evolving interests and concerns. Ranging from intimate to monumental scale, Pestoni’s paintings are joined by a suite of watercolors making their exhibition debut.

Wed, 4/27
Tarek Abdallah and Adel Shams El-Din, both fluent in the language of Egyptian classical tradition, evoke the fascinating history of this music while extending it with spirited and contemporary-inspired compositions.

Wed, 4/27
Each month, explore a new theme through close examination, reflection, and discussion of a select few works of art. This month, explore straight lines, curves, and planes and discover geometry in art.

Fri, 4/29
Tilda Swinton narrates this fascinating nonfiction film that argues that the cultural tremors and traumas caused by new technologies are not unique to our time. The advent of the telephone, motion pictures, radio, and television during previous eras proved equally world-shaking, and the filmmakers have compiled scores of vintage film clips to prove it. Cleveland theatrical premiere.

First Parade the Circle Workshop
Fri, 4/29
For six weeks prior to Parade the Circle, one of the CMA's signature summer events, participants create their own costumes, masks, and giant puppets at public workshops at the CMA. The first workshop takes place this Friday, 4/29.
