Father’s Day at the CMA
Father’s day is this Sunday, June 19! Celebrate all the fathers in your life with a trip to the Cleveland Museum of Art! Here are some great ideas to make your day with dad something special.
Sports are on the minds of most Clevelanders lately, and your dad is certainly no exception. This focus exhibition showcases the work of Ohio State University letterman and semipro baseball player turned artist, George Bellows. Experience one of Bellows most well-known paintings, Stag at Sharkey’s, as well as nearly two dozen of his other paintings, drawings, and lithographs.
Download the new and improved ArtLens 2.0 application on your smart phone, and take Dad on a self-designed tour through your favorite galleries. ArtLens 2.0 includes a high definition image, as well as object information about every artwork on display at the CMA. It is also updated in real time to ensure that you have access to the most accurate information available.
Bring out your dad’s inner child and creative side in the museum’s new Studio Play gallery. This awesome space uses cutting-edge technology to give you and your family the chance to use movement and play to connect to the museum’s vast collection. Play games, create fun and whimsical works of art, or sit down with a good picture book. Be sure to find your creations later on our tumblr!
Japanese and Korean Galleries
If Eastern art is more your dad’s taste, you will not want to miss the CMA’s Japanese and Korean galleries that reopened just last week. The new space offers a spacious and elegant setting that showcases treasures from both the Japanese and Korean collections. A current focal point is a breathtaking, eight-panel, folding screen, which is a centennial loan from the Leeum, Samsung Museum in South Korea. This extremely rare screen is accompanied by an installation of silk flower arrangements. It is truly a stunning sight.
No trip to the museum is complete without a stop at the CMA Store, and it is the perfect place to get a gift for Dad. The Cleveland Museum of Art Store sells a variety of cards, posters, and gifts based on works from the museum collections as well as unique jewelry, clothing accessories, and other items from local artists and museums around the country. You will be sure to find the perfect gift for all of the fathers in your life. For more information or to shop online, visit the CMA Store website.
