The Cleveland Museum of Art's Indian and Southeast Asian collection is rated as one of the leading collections in this area, both nationally and internationally. To add to its collection, the museum is pleased to announce a significant acquisition of the Catherine Glynn Benkaim and Ralph Benkaim Collection of Deccan and Mughal Paintings.
In the development of an exhibition, curators and designers work together to create a spaces where visitors have an immediate understanding of another place and time. We spoke with Michael Bennett, Curator of Greek and Roman Art and co-curator of the Sicily exhibition, and Jim Engelmann, Exhibition Designer, to get a behind-the-scenes look at how they orchestrated the design of a major exhibition: Sicily: Art and Invention between Greece and Rome.

The great 19th century American landscape painter, Thomas Cole, said that “the frame is the soul of the painting.” And for many Clevelanders, the soul of local, artistic practice was ushered in with the Cleveland School movement, a period of intense artistic growth and achievement that spanned the turn of the 19th century through the 1950s.
