Affiliate groups are a great way for members of The Cleveland Museum of Art to make new friends and enjoy even more art adventures throughout our region. Friends of African and African American Art recently visited Gravity and Grace, an exhibition of works by El Anatsui at the Akron Art Museum, Ohio.
The Akron Art Museum purchased a work by El Anatsui for its permanent collection well before he received worldwide recognition as a major contemporary artist. El Anatsui's work is multifaceted with a wide array of artistic techniques from his experiences in Ghana and Nigeria. His work speaks to the universal themes of change, human connection and innovation.
Thirteen members and guests of the Friends of African and African American Art had a wonderful time listening to and discussing El Anatsui's works with Ellen Rudolph, Sr. Curator of Exhibitions (far right) at the Akron Art Museum. Costa Petridis (far left) accompanied the group on the visit.
