Hank Willis Thomas’ Branded series Opens Sunday at the Cleveland Museum of Art

The Cleveland Museum of Art presents Hank Willis Thomas, a two venue exhibition showcasing work by the young, provocative artist along with several collaborators. On view beginning Oct. 20 in the Cleveland Museum of Art’s photography gallery is Thomas’s entire early major series, the 82-part Unbranded: Reflections in Black Corporate America, 1968–2008. Beginning Dec. 14, Transformer Station, the new contemporary art venue owned by the Fred and Laura Ruth Bidwell Foundation on Cleveland’s west side, will host the second part of the exhibition, which includes a five-screen video installation, Question Bridge: Black Males. The Cleveland Museum of Art exhibition closes March 8, 2013 and Transformer Station ends March 9, 2013. Both exhibitions are free.

Examining the Art in Graphic Art

In a unique partnership between Lakeland Community College, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Laura and Alvin Siegal Lifelong Learning Program, a three session mini-course this month will deepen the connections between fine arts, film, and graphic fiction. The course, co-developed by the CMA, consists of three 90 minute weekly live video conferences, which explore the origins, genres, and influences of graphic fiction and narrative.

Until 1 p.m., Katz will be answering questions and handing out tips about transitioning summer-to-fall recipes and discussing Provenance’s new prix fixe menu devoted to Sicilian cuisine (available at Provenance beginning September 11). Cleveland Museum of Art's Debut Exhibition at Transformer Station, The Unicorn, Opens September 7

CLEVELAND (August 19, 2013) – The Cleveland Museum of Art presents The Unicorn, its debut exhibition at Transformer Station, a new contemporary art venue owned by the Bidwell Foundation on Cleveland’s west side. The Unicorn refers to the book of the same title by Martin Walser, an author whose work often questions how humans continually reshape the past. The works in this group exhibition of five internationally-renowned contemporary artists share the processes and practices involved in the construction and reconstruction of the past.

The museum's first Friday of the month cocktail parties, MIX at CMA, have been going strong since they began last October. With each month featuring a different theme, the events have consistently drawn upwards of 1,000 people and have gotten the attention of the New York Times Travel section for their innovative programming.

CMA Ohio City Stages II

CMA Ohio City Stages, presented by Charter One, continues its celebration of summer with world-class music performances. The past few events have featured artists from Mali, Romania and Honduras—and there are more global sounds to come. Morocco’s Aziz Sahmaoui & University of Gnawa and Peru’s Novalima complete the series that wraps up July 31. We’ll cover some of the musicology behind these two bands in this second blog on CMA Ohio City Stages.
