Marjorie E. Wieseman Appointed as The Paul J. and Edith Ingalls Vignos Jr. Curator of European Paintings and Sculpture, 1500–1800, at The Cleveland Museum of Art

Cleveland, OH (December 15, 2016) The Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) has announced the appointment of Marjorie E. (Betsy) Wieseman as the Paul J. and Edith Ingalls Vignos Jr. Curator of European Paintings and Sculpture, 1500–1800. The museum’s collection of Old Master European paintings and sculpture is of international importance, ranging from works created in the early years of the Renaissance through the Rococo period. Wieseman’s appointment follows an international search. She will assume her responsibilities at the CMA sometime this spring.

Recent acquisitions by the Cleveland Museum of Art include an album of 37 photographs by acclaimed 19th-century Indian artist Raja Deen Dayal; a painting by Wadsworth Jarrell, a founding member and leading figure of AfriCOBRA (African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists); and photographs of African American life in the 1960s by photographers Louis Draper and Leonard Freed that will be featured in an upcoming special exhibition in the museum’s Mark Schwartz and Bettina Katz Photography Gallery. Check out the full press release

Cleveland, OH (May 20, 2016) Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Museum of Art today announced an innovative urban landscape project that will connect the western edge of the university’s main campus to its West Campus parcel, home of The Milton and Tamar Maltz Performing Arts Center at The Temple – Tifereth Israel.

Each year as the Lantern Festival Procession unfolds I stand in the crowd at the museum’s north door and share with those around me an anticipatory awe as we wait for the lighted dancers to emerge through the open doors into the darkened night. For me the lights spilling softly over the dancers, painting the air with their movement is magical.
