Arts Education for the 21st Century Museum

Welcome to this online presentation created by the Education Department of the Cleveland Museum of Art. It is made possible through the generous support in part by a grant from the United States Department of Education, under the Fund for the Improvement of Education; ARTS.21--Arts Education for the 21st Century Museum.

The following thirty-three Arts Infused Inter-Disciplinary Units were written in-part by core curriculum teachers from the greater Cleveland area who were led through a series of interactive workshops at the Cleveland Museum of Art in the summer of 2004.

Our goal for the workshops and for this series of Arts Infused Inter-Disciplinary Units is to incorporate objects from the CMAs world renowned collections into your Social Studies, Science, Math and Language Arts classroom curriculum. In doing so we emphasize content significance in artifacts and highlight ways you might use their stories to augment inherent connections in your established curriculum. In select units, we add art projects for you to try with your students as well. And of course, each presentation addresses current State Standards and the mandate from the Ohio Board of Education that the Arts impact all areas of the curriculum.

We firmly believe that the infusion of CMA collections objects into the core subject areas will provide an opportunity for deeper overall learning and will instill in students an understanding of diverse cultures and the value of the arts in our global society.
