The Cleveland Museum of Art

Asian Art at the CMA

The Cleveland Museum of Art's stellar collection of Asian Art is comprehensive in scope and geography. It encompasses works of art from China; Japan; Korea; India; Central Asia; Thailand; Cambodia; Vietnam; Nepal; Kashmir and Tibet. Chronologically, it documents major artistic achievements from the Neolithic to the 20th century.

Although the collection is relatively modest, it numbers approximately 4300 works of art; it has garnered the reputation for ranking among the world's best in artistic quality. Methodically collected since 1916, the scope of the collection enables faculty to work with broad themes, such as Buddhism and illustrates the spread of this faith not only from India to China and Japan but also into Tibet; Central Asia and Cambodia.
