Lesson: Realism in Chinese Art

Lesson Plan (PDF file)

Images for Lesson (PDF file)

This lesson was triggered by a painting depicting street people in China of 1516. Immediately a question arose, "Why is this the only artwork in the Chinese exhibit that dealt with everyday people?" The painting opened the door for a lesson on comparing and contrasting idealism and realism in art as well as looking at the differences between the powerful and weak of society.
