The Chinese language is written with pictorial symbols, not with a phonetic alphabet. The purpose of this lesson is to teach the concept of ideographs as well as calligraphy, elegant penmanship using brushes and ink, in order to practice ideographs. The students will also examine the Chinese bureaucratic structure that existed prior to 1911.
