Directed by Manoel de Oliveira, with Michel Piccoli and Bulle Ogier. This sequel to Luis Buñuels Belle de Jour takes place 38 years after the events of that 1967 film. Séverine, the bourgeois wife who worked days as a high-class prostitute, and Husson, the sadistic libertine who knew of her secret life, meet by chance in Paris and go to dinner. As they dine, repentant Séverine tries to learn whether the devilish Husson ever told her paralytic husband about her old day job. This elegant, autumnal work is at once a wry tribute to Buñuels original film and a moving evocation of the passage of time.
