The Cats of Mirikitani

Directed by Linda Hattendorf, with Jimmy Mirikitani. In this crowd-pleasing documentary, a New York City film editor (the filmmaker Linda Hattendorf ) takes in a homeless, elderly Japanese-American street artist after the attacks of 9/11. While trying to find help and permanent housing for him, she learns a lot about his cat-saturated art and his eventful life, including a traumatic stay in a California WWII internment camp. Winner of the Audience Award at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. Original, uncut version! Cleveland theatrical premiere. (USA, 2006, color, subtitles, 35mm, 74 min.)
