Join the Cleveland Museum of Art for yoga classes, presented in conjunction with the exhibition Yoga: The Art of Transformation, on view June 22–September 7, 2014. From yoga’s origins in India, it has transformed into a global phenomenon. Yoga classes at the CMA present a sampling of contemporary yoga styles as practiced in the United States, offering museum visitors the opportunity to explore the variety of yoga options available in northeast Ohio.

Registration Fee:

$19, single yoga session AND exhibition entry

$12, single yoga session ONLY

$8 CMA members, single yoga session

Register in person; by phone at 216-421-7350; or online at tickets.clevelandart.org, starting June 1. Space is limited and advance registration is highly recommended.

Classes meet in the Kelvin and Eleanor Smith Foundation Exhibition Hall. Please bring your own mat (or purchase one from the museum store). All participants will be required to sign a release form before participating.

Debi Darnell will lead this yoga flow class, an awakening and fluid vinyasa yoga experience with attention to the breath and movement appropriate for students of all levels. Modifications and embellishments will be offered accordingly.

This fun class is designed specifically for a child’s developing body and mind. Children will practice physical poses, as well as breathing and relaxation techniques.

Terra Blue will teach a powerful Vinyasa Flow class open to all levels. Students will experience a moving meditation through vocal instruction of alignment and transition of postures, queuing of breathe work, music, and physical assists for healthy alignment and deepening of postures.

Come learn proper alignment for many poses you see in today’s popular flow yoga classes. Taught by Sandy Gross, one of the area’s most experienced and knowledgeable teachers, you will be able to learn and practice correct pose technique for your body type. This class is suitable both for beginners and for more experienced students who would like to work on refining their technique.

This 75 minute all levels vinyasa (flow) class will include asana (poses), pranayama (breathwork), mantra (chanting), and meditation (stillness). You will be guided through vinyasa sequences, standing and balancing poses, backbends, hip openers and, of course, savasana (corpse pose)!

Owner and Intermediate Junior Iyengar Yoga instructor Karen Allgire will teach a 75 minute Iyengar Yoga multi-level yoga class.

Yoga: The Art of Transformation is organized by the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution with support from the Friends of the Freer and Sackler Galleries, the Art Mentor Foundation Lucerne, and the Ebrahimi Family Foundation.
