The Oscar-winning director of One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Amadeus concocts a sharp and funny satire on petty bureaucracy. The final feature made in Forman’s native Czechoslovakia, it chronicles a provincial firemen’s ball (including a beauty pageant and prize raffle) that goes horribly awry.
