Parade the Circle

2010 Parade Prep

The 21st annual Parade the Circle is Saturday, June 12. Free training workshops in parade skills for leaders of school or community groups preparing parade entries begin March 9 at the parade studio, and continue through April. For more information and a schedule, contact Nan Eisenberg at 216-707-2483 or neisenberg@
clevelandart.org. Public workshops at the museum are offered in May and June.

Basic Parade Workshops Create your parade entry. Workshops at the museum begin May 7 and are Fridays 6:00–9:00, Saturdays 1:30–4:30, and Sundays 1:30–4:30 until the parade. A workshop pass (individuals $50; families $150 up to 4 people, $25 each additional person) entitles you to attend all basic workshops; fee includes parade registration. Organizational rates available. Children under 15 must register and attend with someone older. Drop-in registration for all workshops or the parade. Watch for full listings and special workshops in the May/June magazine.

Volunteers More than 100 volunteers are needed in advance and on parade day. Assist at workshop sessions, help with production work for major ensembles, distribute posters and flyers, or fill one of dozens of parade day jobs. THIS FREE COMMUNITY ARTS PARADE is presented annually by the Cleveland Museum of Art. International and national guest artists join Greater Cleveland artists, families, schools and community groups in a spectacular display of bright costumes, giant puppets, stilt-dancers, handmade masks and colorful floats. Circle Village, which includes the activities, entertainment, and food, is presented by University Circle Inc.

Participating in Parade the Circle


Join the 2009 Parade for $6 per person. To be listed in the printed program, register by Sunday, May 24. Register by Tuesday, June 9 for parade buttons and privileges.

Parade guidelines  must be followed. The parade theme is optional.

2009 Parade Guidelines
No written words, logos, motorized vehicles (except wheelchairs) or animals are allowed in the parade. Entries should not propagandize a particular political or religious belief.

2009 Public Workshops Begin May 1


Parade Workshops
Create your parade entry on your own or at CMA public workshops. Register for the parade or all workshops during any listed workshop. Public workshops begin  May 1 and continue until the parade. Workshops are held Fridays, 6:00-9:00, Saturdays, 1:30-4:30, and Sundays, 1:30-4:30.

Volunteering


More than 100 volunteers are needed each year. Opportunities begin with the Circle of Masks Festival, continue through workshop sessions, and culminate on parade day. Call the Volunteer Services office at 216-707-2593 for more information.

Parade the Circle is organized by the Cleveland Museum of Art and is presented through the generous support of the Womens Council of the Cleveland Museum of Art. Additional support has been provided by Medical Mutual, a CMA Community Arts Partner. Circle Village is organized by University Circle Inc. The Cleveland Museum of Art is generously funded by the citizens of Cuyahoga County through Cuyahoga Arts and Culture. The Ohio Arts Council helped fund this program with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence, and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.
