Floor Mosaic of Menander, Glykera, and Comedy The Greek playwright Menander (342-291 BC) reclines on a dining couch with his mistress Glykera. At the left stands a female figure labeled KWMWDIA ("Comedy"), referring to Menander's plays. She holds theater props: a mask and a staff with a curved handle typically held by the narrator/messenger on stage.
