Morion
|
The morion was an open-faced helmet with a tall comb and a curved brim peaking before and after. They were not the favored type of helmet in Styria but were widespread throughout Europe until the beginning of the 1600s. Pikemen and later the corps of princely bodyguards preferred them. This example is distinguished by its fine decoration. Its high comb is etched with arabesques, while Moorish-like motifs decorate the skull and brim. |
