Miksa Róth pioneered the revival of stained glass and mosaic in Hungary, and he played a key role in the growing recognition of the countrys artistic contributions. Rising Sun was shown at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900, when Hungary first exhibited independently from Austria.

Róth was influenced by the American designer Louis Comfort Tiffany, whose opalescent glass was shown in Budapest in 1898. (Stained glass by Róth is also displayed in the exhibition) For Róth, Tiffany's work represented a “break with soul-killing factory-type production.”
