This tapestry was displayed at the Glaspalast exhibition in 1897. Otto Eckmann was one of the first artists in Munich to abandon fine arts for decorative arts. In addition to working in metalwork and typography, Eckmann provided innovative designs for tapestry at the influential weaving workshop in Scherrebek, established in 1896 to revive hand-loom techniques in northern Germany.
