Koloman Moser designed this bookcase as part of an entire interior, described in the journal Die Kunst as an apartment for “a young married couple.” The bookcase came from a small breakfast room, and its luxurious marquetry decoration is characteristic of the Wiener Werkstätte's early domestic commissions, which were generally for wealthy, progressive Jewish clients.
