Cleveland Museum of Art Conservation Staff

Part of the mission of The Cleveland Museum of Art is to preserve the artworks it holds in trust. The many ongoing activities undertaken by the Conservation Division help the museum to achieve this part of the mission. Preservation activities can range from properly storing and exhibiting the works of art, to monitoring the temperature and relative humidity in the museum. Works of art are examined for acquisition, loan, and treatment or as part of collection catalogues. Treatments are undertaken to stabilize objects and to recover as much as possible the aesthetic integrity.
Portrait of Bruce Bruce Christman, Chief Conservator, establishes museumwide policies for the optimum preservation of the museum's collection and implements museumwide conservation policies. Oversees and directs all conservation work to be done on artworks in the museum's collection.
image Marcia C. Steele, Conservator of Paintings is in charge of the painting conservation lab and oversees the treatment and care of the paintings in the collection. She also monitors the well being of the Asian paintings in the collection.
image Kenneth Bé, Associate Conservator of Paintings assists in the examination, treatment and care of the painting collection.
image Marta Oriola-Folch, Fulbright Scholar in Painting Conservation assists in the examination, treatment and care of the paintings collection.
image Linnaea Saunders, Assistant Paintings Conservator assists in the examination, treatment and care of the paintings collection.
image Patricia S. Griffin, Assistant Conservator of Objects oversees the treatment and care of the sculpture and decorative art collections.
image Laurence I. Sisson, Mellon Fellow in Objects Conservation assists in the examination, treatment and care of the sculpture and decorative art collections.
image Moyna Stanton, Associate Conservator of Paper is in charge of the paper conservation lab and oversees the treatment and care of the prints and drawings in the collection. She is also responsible for monitoring the well being of the photography and Asian paintings.
image Robin Hanson, Assistant Conservator of Textiles is in charge of the textile conservation lab and oversees the treatment and care of the textiles in the collection.
image Jim George, Preparator assists the conservators in caring for the collections from maintaining the objects in the galleries, matting and framing works of art for display, monitoring the museum environment to the proper storage of the collections.
image Joan T. Neubecker, Preparator assists the conservators in caring for the collections from maintaining the objects in the galleries, matting and framing works of art for display, monitoring the museum environment to the proper storage of the collections. She also assists all conservators with photodocumentation and assists the paper conservator with examining photographs as they enter and leave the building.
image Charles G. Eiben, Preparator for Prints and Drawings assists in the care of the prints and drawings in the collection. Activities include the examination of objects as they enter and leave the building, properly storing the artworks to matting and framing them for exhibition.
image Judith DeVere, Administrative Assistant performs clerical work, maintains schedules and databases.
