About David Douglas Duncan David Douglas Duncan was born in 1916 in Kansas City, Missouri. He has traveled the world recording historic places, persons, and events, most notably the realities and effects of war.As a member of the U.S. Marine Corps, he photographed Marine aviation in World War II and covered both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. From 1946 to 1955, he was a photographer on the Life magazine staff. Among his 27 books are Self-Portrait U.S.A. (1969), which documents the Democratic and Republican presidential conventions of 1968, and War Without Heroes (1971), a selection of Vietnam War photographs. His work can be found in such prestigious collections as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, Missouri.
