March 28 to July 18, 2004 Admission to the museum and this exhibition is free. Cleveland artists of the early 20th century were among the first to embrace the new spirit of the Jazz Age, with its emphasis on unrestrained freedom, innovation, and experimentation. Artists working in a wide variety of media accepted the challenge of finding new forms of expression equivalent to the realities of life in the world of soaring skscrapers and improvised music. Their lively, energetic styles seemed to mirror society's infatuation with fast cars, motion pictures, and airplanes. This exhibition features over 60 works (paintings, sculptures, photographs, and decorative arts) produced between 1914 and 1945 by leading Cleveland artists of the period, including Charles Burchfield, Margaret Bourke-White, William Sommer and Viktor Schreckengost.
