About Project 244 Project 244 is a gallery space at The Cleveland Museum of Art dedicated exclusively to changing exhibitions of contemporary art. The gallery, located within the existing contemporary galleries on the Museum's second level, features three special exhibitions annually that focus on new and exciting contemporary works and artists.The Cleveland Museum of Art Director Katharine Lee Reid said "Project 244 underscores this Museum's commitment to showing new and experimental work as part of our responsibility as a comprehensive art museum. Our small, selective shows will give viewers a taste of some of the most forward-looking, visually innovative artists working today." Project 244 exhibitions focus on emerging artists as well as little-known aspects of the work of more established contemporary artists. According to Jeffrey D. Grove, Ph.D., the museum's curator of contemporary art, "Project 244 creates an evolving space to watch within the contemporary galleries. Our goal is to invite visitors to keep returning to connect with and interpret innovative exhibitions of the art of our time." No singular agenda is adopted for these exhibitions, rather the 600 square foot gallery is a space for experimentation and a laboratory for new ideas. Project 244 is supported in part by an anonymous gift. The Cleveland Museum of Art receives operating support from the Ohio Arts Council and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
