Head of a Boy (about 530 BC)

This early 6th-century BC limestone head was probably originally part of the sculptural decoration of a Greek temple in ancient Selinus on the south coast of Sicily. The head shows a male youth with prominent eyes. His mouth is upturned into an "archaic smile," a convention of the period.
