Female Divinity (about 400-350 BC) Depicting an elegantly attired woman with classical features, this type of bust relies heavily upon the sculptural influence of mainland Greece, particularly Athens. She wears a tall headdress (polos) set on a band tied around her head. The ends of her earlobes are pierced for the insertion of metal earrings, now lost. Offered as special gifts to the gods (anathemata), such terracottas were found at Agrigento-like this example-and also at other city-states: Syracuse, Grammichele, Centuripe, and Selinus.Page 8 of 8 | On the next page: Kore Buckle (about 650-640 BC) |
