Boat-Shaped Earrings (about 350-325 BC)
These earrings crafted from sheets of gold were found in the tomb of a wealthy young woman. The shape and style is a classic one and is found throughout the Mediterranean world. Earrings of similar shape were found on the island of Cyprus as early as the Mycenean period. Studies of such earrings reveal that the most refined and elaborate of these types of earrings come from Taranto in Magna Graecia; indeed the boat shaped earring saw its zenith there during the Hellenistic Period.
