Statuette of a Woman (about 575-550 BC)
This bronze statuette was found in a sanctuary sacred to the goddess Athena in the ancient Greek city of Sybaris. Made during the 6th century BC, the Greek Archaic period, it exhibits features characteristic of sculpture of the time. The clothed female statuette is posed frontally and probably represents a goddess, designed to stand in a model chariot. Clothed female figures were conventional for the period.
