Wheat Field perfectly captures the agrarian riches of the Norman countryside in high summer. The region was an agricultural center for centuries, particularly important for its production of grain and livestock. Deceptive in its apparent simplicity, the painting is masterful in its formal choreography. Horizontal bands of green and blue envelop the warm stripe of golden, sunlit wheat, while a curving path beckons the viewer into the composition.
