The City at a Glance

Originally a frontier village founded in 1796, Cleveland grew into a manufacturing and business center for northeast Ohio. Cleveland is located on the southern shore of Lake Erie and extends 100 miles along the shore and more than 40 miles inland. It is situated at the intersection of I-77, I-71 and I-90. Ohio Route 2 and Route 6 follow the Lake Erie shoreline through Cleveland. Interstates 480 and 80 run south of the city and I-271 is east of the city running north and south. It is the 28th largest city in the U.S. with 2.9 million residents in the greater Cleveland area.

Cleveland's strong industrial and service economy is bolstered by more than 14 colleges and universities. Cleveland is home to many Fortune 500 company headquarters. The world famous Cleveland Clinic can be found in University Circle as well as the nationally recognized health care facility University Hospitals. They are two of Cleveland's largest employers. Cleveland and its beautiful neighborhoods boast a wide variety of year-round recreational activities from beaches to skiing, historical districts, museums, music for all tastes, theater, sports, and family activities.

Often Cleveland is cited as a model for urban renewal, and it was named one of the top 10 international visitor hot spots by Travel and Leisure. It is rated by Fortune magazine as one of the top 10 best cities for business and rated one of four most livable cities in the nation by Partners for Livable Communities.
