Picasso: The Artist's Studio

Only at the CMA: Picasso's Working Methods Revealed

Only visitors to the Cleveland showing of Picasso: The Artist's Studio will have the opportunity to experience a gallery exploring how Picasso's working methods are revealed through x-radiography, infrared reflectography, and other forms of scientific analysis.

This gallery highlights what current conservation techniques have revealed about two Picasso paintings belonging to the Cleveland Museum of Art: La Vie , on view in an earlier gallery of the exhibition, and Harlequin with Violin (Si Tu Veux), a major Cubist work of 1918, on view in the permanent collection galleries.

Also featured in the gallery is a large, high-resolution interactive display. Visitors to the exhibition can use this system to study conservation techniques and discover for themselves the many mysteries locked within Picasso's La Vie.

Web visitors will find information on Cleveland's groundbreaking work in this field, as well as similar work being done at musems across the world in the section of this Web feature entitled Understanding Picasso Through Conservation.(UPTC).
