Statue of Minemheb

Statue of Minemheb | 1996.28

Egypt, New Kingdom, Dynasty 18 (1540-1296 BC), reign of Amenhotep III, 1391-1353, Not on display

The army scribe Minemheb supervised the construction of a building erected for King Amenhotep III's jubilee celebrating thirty years of rule. He is shown here kneeling, presenting an altar upon which sits a baboon, the sacred animal of the god Thoth, patron of scribes, in whose temple the statue may have been dedicated.
