Giraffe

Giraffe2.jpg - 27.9 K

Did you know...
*Giraffes have the same number of neck bones (vertebrae) as humans; but those of the giraffe are elongated and may be up to a foot long.

*A giraffe cow gives birth standing; the calf drops about six feet to the ground.

*Giraffes may attain speeds of 31 to 37 mph when galloping.

Look for...
*An extremely long (about 18 inches) blue-black tongue used for gathering food.

*Rumination (chewing the cud) like a cow. Previously swallowed food is brought back up to its mouth for further chewing.

*The way a giraffe walks.the front and hind legs on each side move simultaneously, first one side and then the other.
