African Lion

Lion2.jpg - 19.7 K

Did you know...
*Of all the cat species, only lions form a family group consisting of one or more adult males and a greater number of adult females and their cubs. This lion family is known as a pride.

*Females hunt and kill to feed the pride; males eat first, then adult females, and cubs last.

Look for...
*The male lion's big mane that surrounds the head and extends rearward down the back as well as under the belly.

*Frequent head contact, a social behavior denoting friendliness and bonding.

*Long periods of sleep and rest; lions in Africa sleep as many as 20 hours per day.
