Statue of Minemheb - 11.7 K

Granodiorite, height 17-1/2 inches
Egypt, Dynasty 18, reign of Amenhotep III, 1391-1353 bc

The army scribe Minemheb supervised the construction of a building erected for King Amenhotep III's jubilee celebrating thirty years of rule. He is shown here kneeling, presenting an altar upon which sits a baboon, the sacred animal of the god Thoth, patron of scribes, in whose temple the statue may have been dedicated.

Leonard C. Hanna, Jr., Fund, 1996.28
