Friday-Night Minis: Try something new in a four-week mini-session. We’re excited to offer All Ages workshops for adults and for children accompanied by their favorite grown-up.

Vejigantes: Papier-Mâché Mask Making (All ages) Four Fridays, January 4–25, 2019, 6:30–8:30 p.m. Instructors: Claire Appelmans and Arcelia Gandarilla. Catch the Caribbean spirit by creating Vejigantes, Puerto Rican spirit masks known for their bright patterns and spiky horns. Over the four-week course, you’ll progress from design sketches to structural forms that you’ll cover with papier-mâché and paint. At the last class, we’ll bring our Vejigantes to life through a performance in the atrium. Instructors speak both English and Spanish. Best for ages 8 and up. Children under 14 must be accompanied by a ticketed adult. $140, CMA members $120.

Encaustic (All ages) Four Fridays, February 1–22, 6:30–8:30 p.m. Instructor: Michaelle Marschall. Explore encaustic, the ancient art of painting with molten beeswax. Learn about the history of encaustic painting and practice a variety of techniques, including how to build layers of pigmented wax and to fuse, embed, and collage objects. Best for ages 8 and up. Children under 14 must be accompanied by a ticketed adult. $140, CMA members $120.

Ceramics: Form and Function (All ages) Four Fridays, March 8–29, 6:30–8:30 p.m. Instructor: Laura Ferrando. Inspired by works from the exhibition Color and Comfort: Swedish Modern Design, create your own decorative and functional ceramic pieces. Practice a variety of hand-building and decorating techniques in a relaxed atmosphere perfect for both experienced makers and first-timers. Best for ages 8 and up. Children under 14 must be accompanied by a ticketed adult. $140, CMA members $120.

Textiles: Wonder, Weave, Wear (Ages 8–14) Four Fridays, March 8–29, 6:30–8:30 p.m. Instructor: Jeanna Forhan. Inspired by textiles in the museum galleries, create wonders of your own using weaving, embroidery, and appliqué techniques and a wide variety of materials, from fabric and yarn to paint and beads. Make it personal or create gifts for family or friends. $105, CMA members $90.

Land Art (All ages) Four Fridays, May 3–24, 6:30–8:30 p.m. Instructor: Jessica Wascak. Explore the process of creating Land Art, using natural materials and contemporary art. This intergenerational class is great for families who want to create together or adults looking for something new. Children under 14 must be accompanied by a ticketed adult. $140, CMA members $120.

Fees and Registration Registration is first-come, first-served. Register online or through the ticket center at 216-421-7350. There is a $15 late fee per order beginning one week before class starts.

NOTE: Since Friday-Night Minis are an in-depth studio experience, children under 14 must take the class with an adult so that they have someone to help translate instructions and offer guidance with the use of adult tools (except Textiles: Wonder, Weave, Wear).  

Cancellation Policy Classes with insufficient registration will be combined or canceled one week before class begins, with enrollees notified and fully refunded. Refunds are issued any time before the beginning of the session. After the first class, consideration is given on an individual basis.
