Gallery One Internship

The Cleveland Museum of Art has opened an exciting new interactive space, called Gallery One.

Gallery One is a unique, interactive gallery that blends art, technology, and interpretation to inspire visitors to explore the museum’s renowned collections. This revolutionary space features the largest multi-touch screen in the United States, which displays images of over 3,500 objects from the museum’s world-renowned permanent collection. This 40-foot Collection Wall allows visitors to shape their own tours of the museum and to discover the full breadth of the collections on view throughout the museum’s galleries.

Gallery One offers something for visitors of all ages and levels of comfort with art. Visitors to Gallery One will discover new ways of interpreting the museum’s distinguished collection through a variety of hands-on and technology-based activities. In addition, the museum’s new ArtLens iPad application allow visitors to explore how works of art were made, where they came from and why they were produced. At every turn, technology is used to bring visitors back to works of art and to open multiple perspectives on the collection.

We are looking for current undergraduates and graduate students to become Interns for Gallery One. The internship is an introduction to working in a world-class museum and an opportunity for learning and growth. As vital members of the Gallery One team, interns will welcome and help visitors navigate the space and its interactive features, along with helping visitors setup and use the Artlens app on either their own iPad or one provided by the museum.

Through interaction with art, technology, and museum visitors, students will develop their ability to facilitate conversations with all types of visitors, and help create a comfortable museum environment.

Interns will work 3-4 gallery shifts per week. A shift is 4 hours. Continued involvement throughout the undergraduate career is encouraged, as schedules allow.

Please send a cover letter indicating interest in the project along with a current resume of employment and relevant coursework in Art History, Architecture, Library Studies, Math and/or Computer Science to Jane Alexander, Director of Information Management and Technology at galleryone [at] clevelandart.org .
