Adult Studios

All-Day Workshop: Christmas Arrangements-Ikebana Style Saturday, December 10, 10:00-4:00, (lunch on your own). Instructor: Isa Ranganathan. $85, CMA members $70. Ikebana is the Japanese traditional art of flower arranging. Come and join us to make Christmas arrangements in the Ikebana style. Additonal flower cost will be divided among the attendess. Supply list at Ticket center. 

 

All-Day Workshop:Shibori Saturday, December 10, 10:00-4:00, (lunch on your own). Instructor: JoAnn Giordano. $90, CMA members $75. Fee includes dye, auxiliary chemicals and fabric. Shibori is a Japnese tie-dye method for creating complex patterns, texture and color on cloth. Students will use water immersion and direct painting of fiber reactive dye on cotton. Wearables will be emphasized: scarves and T-shirt. Supply list at Ticket center. 

 

Encaustic Painting Sunday, December 18, 1:00- 3:30. Instructor: Michaelle Marshall. $40, CMA members $30. Experiment with the unusual effects of painting with hot wax and pigments in this adults only class. Supplies provided. 

 

Multimedia Abstract Art 8 Thursdays, January 5-February 23, 1:00- 3:30. Instructor: JoAnn Rencz. $195, CMA members $150. Gain a better understanding of composition by manipulating color, balance and texture using oil pastels, acrylic paint and collage. Experimentation is encouraged. All levels welcome. Supplies provided. 

 

 

Pastels and Pure Color Four Thur/Nov 17 & Dec 1,8,& 15, 1:00-3:30. Instructor: JoAnn Rencz. $100, CMA members $75. Learn the techniques of using pastels in a creative environment. Exploring the Pure Color exhibit will foster an understanding of the masters' expressive use of the medium. Focus on the techniques of blending, feathering, color mixing and dimension. Self-expression is encouraged. Most supplies provided. 

 

Painting for Beginners (Oil and Acrylic) Eight Tuesdays, Jan 10-Feb 28, 10:00–12:30, classroom F. Instructor: Susan Gray Bé.$205, CMA members $155; includes model fee. Bring your own supplies or buy for $80 (to be paid the first day of class). Balance and contrast color, tonal relationships, pattern, texture, and form while building confidence with brushwork. 

 

Introduction to Drawing Eight Tue/Jan 17–Feb 7, 1:00–3:30, classroom H. Instructor: JoAnn Rencz.$200, CMA members $155. Supplies provided or bring your own favorites.Here's a great place to start while building your confidence.Beginners learn simple yet effective drawing techniques using basic graphite and conté crayon on paper. 

 

Drawing in the Galleries Eight Wed/Jan 4–Feb 22, 10:00–12:30, classroom F. Instructor: Susan Gray Bé.$205, CMA members $155. All supplies provided. Sculpture and paintings throughout the museum inspire drawing in charcoal and various pencils, including colored conté pencils. Students are encouraged to see light as contrasting shape while adding structure and detail with line, tone, and color. Practice, expression, and technique are equally encouraged. All skill levels welcome, including high school students needing observation work for college admission.

Introduction to Painting Eight Wed/Sep 14–Nov 2, 10:00–12:30, classroom H. Instructor: Cliff Novak. Beginners learn simple painting techniques in color mixing and application with acrylic paints. Still-life objects serve as inspiration for this low-pressure course. $195, CMA members $150. 

 

Watercolor Eight Wed/Jan 11–March 1, 10:00–12:30, classroom G. Instructor: Jesse Rhinehart. welcome. $195, CMA members $155. Paper provided. Materials list discussed at first class. Learn advanced color mixing and composition in a relaxed atmosphere. All skill levels welcome.

Beginning Watercolor Eight Thu/Jan 12–March 2, 10:00–12:30, classroom G. Instructor: Jesse Rhinehart.$195, CMA members $155. Paper provided. Materials list discussed at first class. Beginners will be given a comprehensive approach to watercolor. All levels welcome from beginner to advanced.

Bring your own supplies or buy for $80 (to be paid the first day of class).Aesthetic expression emerges as compositions are refined with contrasting color, pattern, texture, tone, and line. Charcoal drawing on the first day leads to underpainting, wet-into-wet blending, and glazing. All skill levels welcome, including beginners and high school students needing observation work for college admission.

Printmaking Three Sun/ Jan 15, 22, & 29, 1:00-3:00. Instructor: Cliff Novak. $80, CMA members $70.Price includes supply fee. Experiment with several types of printmaking including linoleum and silk screen. 

 

Gesture Drawing Three Sun/Feb 15, 12, & 19, 12:30–3:00, classroom F, atrium, and galleries. Instructor: Susan Gray Bé.$95, CMA members $85; includes model fee for one session. All supplies provided. Experience the brilliant light of the Ames Family Atrium while drawing a live model. Other afternoons are spent in the galleries. 

 

Cancellation policy: Classes with insufficient registration will be combined or canceled three days before class begins, with enrollees notified and fully refunded. Refunds are issued any time before the beginning of the session. After the first class, consideration will be given to refunds on an individual basis.
