Description

This elegant neoclassical mausoleum in Cleveland’s Lake View Cemetery houses the body of Samuel Andrews (1836–1904), an English candle maker with little education who arrived in Cleveland in 1857. One of the earliest involved in refining kerosene from crude oil, Andrews ended up cofounding the Standard Oil Company. He built one of the city’s largest homes, which was torn down in 1923.
